***SAFE 09/28/17*** PRETTY PEPPER IS HOPING FOR A HOME OF HER OWN TONIGHT! PEPPER and 4 housemates were brought to shelter for “personal problems”. She is the second of the group to make an appearance on the nightly at risk list. Pepper is shy and may need some time to warm up since she is confused and wondering why she lost her home. Pepper has a cold and must exit tomorrow. WILL YOU RESERVE THIS PRETTY GIRL BY NOON??

09/24/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Pepper was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. She lived with adults and other cats and was reported to eat both wet and dry food. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Nervous, anxious, ears back, dilated pupils, occasional hiss EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Pepper was lying down in cubby, looking out with soft eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pepper meows very softly and averts her gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Pepper becomes alert, but remains calm. Reaction to touch: Pepper meows and was hesitant of touch, but sniffs the assessor’s hand and lowers her head for petting. She appears unsure, but warms up after a few strokes and will arch her shoulders when pet along her back. She still seems wary of her surroundings, but doesn’t seem to mind attention. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy, Calm POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Pepper has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parents – Pepper tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She will need time to warm up to her new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
