Hello, my name is Pennywise. My animal id is #20218. I am a male gray cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 08-Feb-2018.
Pennywise 20218 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Pennywise is stressed in the shelter environment and would do well in a home with an experienced pet parent.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 6.62 lbs

Closes his eyes and slowly shifts away to the other side of the kennel. Nervous, needs more time to adjust. Offered treats but showed no interest. 02/11/18 Hunched on top of kuranda bed, body tense and tail curled around feet. Makes eye contact with wide eyes and tolerates petting along head and body while shifting weight and flattening ears. Licks lips. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.

Reaction to touch:: Pennywise tolerates petting along his head and body while remaining very still, head turning to watch the assessor’s hand and eyes open wide.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Pennywise has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Pennywise tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
