06/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Penelope was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Upon intake, she was pressed against the back of her carrier and appeared timid. She attempted to flee and hissed defensively when approached. However, she allowed all handling and did not become fractious. The enrichment facilitator reported she was very shy during their first interaction, but allowed petting and handling with a stiff posture. During the second day, she showed some improvement, and warms up to touch. She even started to explore the cage. Reaction to assessor: Penelope was sitting upright and was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Penelope looks at the assessor and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Penelope becomes alert, but remains calm. Reaction to touch: Penelope was a bit hesitant as the assessor extends their hand, but remains in place and accepts petting on her head and back. She slowly warms up and leans in for cheek rubs. Reaction to being picked up: Penelope remains calm and allows handling. Behavior Determination: Average Penelope interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
