I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 04-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.

Limited exam due to behavior scan negative female intact age approx 3 yrs mild tartar no MC, CT due to behavior clean EEN clean coat BCS 6/9 hissed, growled, very aggressive ,tried to bite Client stated that peanut has roundworm and his next dosage is on 2/12. Vet documents uploaded. NOSF

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 2-5 years based on overall appearance Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned negative on intake – MC placed during this exam History : Stray, client found this cat about a month ago and brought her for vet treatment and vaccines. She had worms so she was given dewormer, and is due for Profender on 2/12/18. Subjective: Alert in kennel, hisses when we make eye contact Observed Behavior – Yowls and hisses. Unable to handle. Placed in Freeman net for brief exam – pt struggled, yowled and hissed throughout the exam. Evidence of Cruelty seen – None Evidence of Trauma seen – None Objective BAR, MMs pink, BCS 5-7/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Not performed PLN: Not palpated H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Tense, difficult to palpate U/G: Female, reported to be in heat MSI: Difficult to evaluate. Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: Hx roundworms, reported to be in heat Prognosis: Good Plan: 1. Pre-op exam S: Alet, hisses at me in kennel. Not removed from kennel due to behavior hx. O: BAR, MMs pink EENT: No discharge OU, nose. H/L: Eupnic, no coughing or sneezing. Not ausculted. Abd: Not palpated M/S/I: Amb x4. No skin lesions noted. Neuro: Alert and appropriate, no sign neurological deficiencies A: Apparently healthy from limited exam Short-term prognosis: Excellent P: Spay today 1088

Anesthesia Summary: Feline OHE Pre Medication/Induction: Ketamine 100mg/mL injectable, 0.45 mL IM, once Dexdomitor 0.5mg/mL injectable, 0.1 mL IM, once Butorphanol 10mg/mL injectable, 0.05 mL, IM once Anesthesia Notes: Size 3.5 fr. ET tube placed, maintained general anesthesia throughout procedure on variable Isoflurane and variable L/min O2 22g IVC placed in LF cephalic vessel Used (non-rebreathing ) system with 0.5 L bag. Intraoperative fluid administration: Intraoperative IV fluids (LRS) administered at a rate of 50 mL/hr throughout procedure. NSAID: Robenicoxib (Onsior) 20mg/mL injectable, 0.5 mL, SQ, once, for post operative pain relief. Given post operatively. Simbadol 1.8mg/mL injectable, 0.65 mL SQ, once, for post operative pain relief, given post operatively. Basic Information:: Peanut is a 4 year old, female, domestic shorthair cat. Previous owner has had her for 1 month and found her outside as a stray. Unfortunately he can not keep her due to not having time to care for her. She has roundworm but is being treated for it and was last at the vet January 21, 2018.

How is this cat around children?: Peanut has never spent time around children. Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around other cats?: Peanut has never spent time around other cats. Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around dogs?: Peanut has never spent time around dogs. Behavior is unknown.
Behavior Notes: Peanut meows too much and is relaxed sleeps through car rides. Previous owner has never given Peanut a bath, trimmed her nails, or brushed her. She isn’t bothered when picked up, put in carrier, or disturbed while sleeping.

For a New Family to Know: Peanut is a friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow cat. She has a medium activity level. She likes to drink out of the sink and climb on top of high places. She will follow you around when you are home and enjoys playing with balls, stuffed toys, and catnip. She is indoors only and sleeps with owner. She eats wet and dry food and is litter box trained. She uses a covered litter box with clumping litter. She uses a rough rope and cardboard scratching post.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/5/18 Observed Behavior – Yowls and hisses. Unable to handle.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/5/18 In den, tense, peeking through holes. Started growling on approach. Hissed and swatted interior den wall when door opened. Continued growling when offered treats.Covered cage. 2/6/18 Dozing next to den, woke when door opened. Lay in place, tense, alert. Allowed all pets while eating treats, started hissing when treats ran out. Very food motivated, still not interested in socializing. 2/7/18 Sitting up in middle of cage, tense posture, whiskers forward. Hissed when spoken to. Came slightly forward and started eating offered treats. Hissed, backed away, started growling when attempted touch, did not aggress further. Resumed eating after door closed. 2/11/18 Huge improvement! Resting in litter box, became alert on approach, looked up, eyes dilated. Stood when door opened, started eating offered treats. Actually paused while eating, started to head-butt and lean into pets! Finished eating treats, lay back down in litter box, dozed off.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Peanut remains neutral, lying down with head up on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Peanut becomes alert with normal shape eyes, loose body.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Peanut stiffens up, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Peanut hisses at the assessor’s hand while leaning away. After he accepts the stroke he began to growl in place attempting to avoid contact, slowly looking around.

Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
