BEHAVIOR:
4/17 update:
04/17/17
Pauletta does not appear to be thriving in our busy adoptions room and has begun to growl when approached for an interaction. She has not escalated or shown any aggression or other distance-increasing behaviors and has otherwise been social and remains appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of cat experience. Due to her stress level, we feel that quick placement into a stable home environment is in her best interest.

ENRICHMENT:
04/11/17
Seems stressed out today, her kennel was recently cleaned. She was pressed up against the back of the kennel and started lip licking when I opened the door. Her eyes dilated, her body weight shifts and she starts breathing rapidly. She leans forward to sniff and allows petting on her head briefly. After a few soft passes she backs away and hisses. It took some time but I was able to coax her out the cubby with some tuna.
04/12/17
Is laying relaxed in cubby as I approach. She lifts her head and makes eye contact when I speak softly to her, laying her head back down. She looks around the room when I open her kennel. Accepts petting on her head and leans softly into my hand. She continues to look around the room as I pet her along her head and body – adoptions is crowded today. She is shy at first and a bit distracted by her environment but she warms up quickly and enjoys petting along her head and back. Good potential to warm up.
04/13/17
Is lying relaxed in her cubby when I approach. She has wide eyes when I open the kennel door but she allows me to reach out and touch her head without flinching away. She gently leans into my hand whenever I pass it along her head, eyes still focused on the room outside. She allows all petting and enjoys being pet for the duration of the session. She is nervous and distracted by the sometimes loud adoption room but appreciates touch. Doing better since day one!
04/16/17
Sitting upright in cubby when I approach, eyes wide and licking lips. She crouches down when I speak to her and looks past me towards the room in the background. She relaxes a bit after I touch her head, leaning softly into my hand. She occasionally lips her licks as I’m petting her, usually after a loud noise. She enjoys gentle petting on her head and I stop when she sits up suddenly with her ears flattened. Could be reacting to a loud noise that was just made. Still nervous but she’s warming up. Sprayed feliway.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Pauletta remains calm and relaxed upon approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Pauletta makes eye contact, and then she looks around at her surroundings.
Reaction to cage door opening: Pauletta becomes alert, but remains calm and looks around.
Reaction to touch: Pauletta was a bit hesitant, but she accepts petting. She shifts to the outside of her cubby, but will come back when coaxed and rubs her head against the assessor’s hand. She doesn’t seem to mind petting and attention, but will occasionally focus on her surroundings and peer out from her kennel space.
Reaction to being picked up: Pauletta remains soft during pick up, but will wiggle to placed back down after a moment.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet, Curious
