*** SAFE 11/12/17 **7 year old PAPA was dumped by his owner. He is mildly dehydrated and lethargic and has swollen eyes. He is also possibly blind in the left eye. Papa is already neutered and hoping someone will give him a home and some TLC.

Hello, my name is Papa. My animal id is #11952. I am a desexed male tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 06-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Papa is at risk due to medical condition. Papa has possible head trauma vs. ocular cancer vs. renal disease and will need a pet parent who is prepared to take on necessary care for medical condition. There are no known behavior concerns for Papa at this time.

scan negative QAR, mild dehydration, lethergic allows handling appx 7 yrs old mod to heavy tartar swollen and slightly bloody eyes limited vision, poss blind on left eye walking slow BCS 6/9 NOSF
CBC chemistry panel requested by DVM. Blood drawn from Left hind medial saphenous vessel using a 22g butterfly catheter and a 3mL syring. sample of 3mL taken.
Per DVM 1088, placed IVC- 22g. Bolus 100mL LRS, then maintain at 20ml/hr. Gave 1.5mL 50% Dextrose solution IV over 15 minutes. Rechecked BG: 154. Blood pressure taken with size 3 cuff using Cardell Monitor- 113/67 MAP 90, 113/94 MAP 106 Doppler Systolic BP: 98,94, 100 Per 1382 @3:45pm, gave 0.4mL Cerenia IV.
DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Reported 7 years; exam is consistent with this Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg on intake History : Owner surrender; no health hx given Subjective: Slightly dull. not alert, but when you touch him, he responds and moves around. No app today. Observed Behavior – Purrs gently, allows all handling Evidence of Trauma seen – Ocular changes (see below) Objective BCS 7/9, MMs pink and moist, CRT < 2 sec EENT: OS – conjunctival vessel injection dorsally, mild neovascularization on the dorsolateral area of the cornea. Small amount of blood suspended in anterior chamber, small amount of flare. The pupil is shaped like a backwards D, with the straight side of the D on the left side of the eye, and the curved side of the D to the right side of the eye. Unable to visualize fundus – nothing visible when light is directed through pupil. OD – conjunctival vessel injection dorsally, moderate seromucoid discharge. Incipient cataract (multiple pinpoints). Fundic exam – normal. Clean ears, nose. No bruising anywhere else on face – ears or elsewhere Oral Exam: Moderate-severe tartar PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: Purring, quiet heart/lungs, but NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male neutered MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally CBC: Hct normal, WBC normal. Plt count slightly low at 137 k/ul. Chemistry: Hypoglycemia (56), azotemia (BUN 95, creat 8.4), phos 8.9. Mild elevations in ALT (233) and alk phos (114), t. bili (1.2) Blood pressure: 113/85 Assessment: 1. Ocular changes – R/O trauma vs. ocular or brain neoplasia vs. high blood pressure (not high at the moment) secondary to CKD vs. other 2. Azotemia – R/O CKD vs. behavioral (not drinking enough due to decreased mentation) 3. Hypoglycemia – R/O liver dz vs. not eating vs. other cause 4. Dental disease 5. Overweight Prognosis: Open Plan: 1. Started IV LRS today – bolused 100 ml and now running at 20 ml/hr, also gave 1.5 ml 50% dextrose IV slowly. 2. Start Simbadol 0.65 ml SQ SID x10 days 3. Recommend tonometry ASAP 4. Seek medical hx from previous owner 5. Recommend abd and ocular ultrasound ASAP 1088

Basic Information:: Papa is an 11 year old cat whom was gotten from a shelter and was kept in the same home for 11 years. Unfortunately due to lack of time he could not be kept.
Previously lived with:: 3 adults, 1 child
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers he is described as shy for a few minutes and plays gentle
How is this cat around children?: Around children he is described as respectful and plays gentle with them.
How is this cat around other cats?: he has never been socialized with cats so this behavior is unknown
How is this cat around dogs?: He has never been socialized with dogs so this behavior is unknown
Behavior Notes: Papa is known to meow a lot and also meow during car rides. He is afraid of being given a bath and will struggle to escape, he isn’t bothered with having his nails trimmed, being brushed, being picked up or being placed in a carrier. He enjoys being brushed and petted.

Medical Notes: Papa has been to the vet 2 weeks ago for a problem with his left eye.
For a New Family to Know: He is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, independent, shy and talkative. He will follow you around when home with you, likes to play with balls and strings, has been kept indoors only and prefers to sleep in a cat tower. He ate fancy feast wet food 1-3 times a day, is considered very litter box trained, prefers a hood litter box with clumping litter and a scratching post made of cardboard.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/07/17 Resting on bedding, facing front, soft eyes and body. Continued to lay in place when door opened, leaned into pets, extended neck for throat rubs.
