Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 1. Green
KNOWN HISTORY:: Limited, Oscar was in a home with many other cats. We have no information about his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Vocal, allows all handling.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/4/18 Crouched behind litter box, eyes dully dilated. Held completely immobile when door opened. Flinched slightly when first touched, then tolerated all pets while holding strong eye contact. No other response.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Oscar is at the back of his kennel, tense. He looks at the assessor and then looks away.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Remains crouched at the back of his kennel.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Looks at assessor, remains immobile.
Reaction to touch:: Oscar remains frozen when the assessor extends her hand. He does not give warning signals and does not retreat, but she is clearly uncomfortable with interaction. He allows gentle touch and petting but remains uncomfortable.
Reaction to being picked up:: Not done out of concern for Oscar’s stress level.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Skittish
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: It is difficult to get a good read on Oscar’s behavior at this point and without any known history. In the care center he has been shy but tolerant. We would anticipate similar behavior upon first arriving in a new home, and caution that we cannot be certain of Oscar’s level of sociability or comfort around humans. He has allowed touch and petting but appears cautious when first approached. He will likely need an acclimation period to warm up to his new home and new family at his own pace. We recommend experienced adopters prepared to give him this time.
