INTAKE INFO:
Basic Information:
Noki is a brown tabby who was brought into the care center as a stray.

Upon intake Noki had a tense body, retreated to the back of the carrier. When counselor opened the carrier Noki hissed and began to low growl. Counselor was unable to collar due to multiple animals inside the admissions office and cat appeared stressed, photograph was taken inside carrier.
BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Noki was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
04/11/18
Timid, fearful, hissing
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
04/12/18
Crouched in back of kennel, body tense and tail pulled tightly around body. Head is facing towards kennel wall. Turns towards me when spoken to and hisses, ears flattening completely. Continuously hisses and backs away against wall until kennel door closes. Uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust.
04/16/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body flat and tense. Ears are flattened completely and he raises his head as I reach towards him with a treat, pupils dilated as he makes eye contact and hisses. He sniffs the treats and I notice he has eaten them as I check up on him several minutes later. Uncomfortable with interaction at this time – limited interaction due to stress.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Noki was tense and lying down completely flat across the back of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Noki lip licks and tries to avoid eye contact when coaxed by the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Noki flinches and shifts away from the assessor.
Reaction to touch:
Noki rises up slowly, his ears bend flat and he starts breathing rapidly when approached. He hisses and displays distance increasing behaviors when touched, and currently doesn’t allow any handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Skittish
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Noki has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
New hope only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Noki is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
