Hello, my name is Nila. My animal id is #10835. I am a desexed female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 14 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 26-Oct-2017.
Nila is at risk due to behavior (Experience determination). She is stressed and fearful in care center and is not thriving. She is geriatric and could benefit from weight loss and a dental cleaning.

Scanned neg on intake History : No health hx available Subjective: Calm, looks around, lies in one place Observed Behavior – Slightly tense at times, allows all handling Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 8/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Severe tartar and gingivitis, many missing teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female, reported spayed MSI: Ambulatory x 4, fur on back needs to be groomed. Skin free of parasites, no masses noted. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally. Assessment 1. Dental disease 2. Overweight 3. Nila was meowing quietly and when taken out of the carrier, she attempted to look for a hiding spot. Nila allowed all handling but was very nervous and scared.

How is this cat around strangers?: The person who brought Nila in says she is shy and friendly.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Nila was brought in with limited information on her behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. She lived in a home with an elderly person and was reported to be shy around strangers, but friendly. Nila was meowing quietly and when taken out of the carrier, she attempted to look for a hiding spot. Nila allowed all handling but was very nervous and scared.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Allows handling
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Nila was lying down in her cubby, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Nila looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes, holding eye contact.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Nila becomes alert, but remains in place.
Reaction to touch:: Nila was hesitant of touch, but sniffs the assessor’s hand while her ears tilt sideways. She accepts petting with a slow approach and leans in a bit for cheek rubs, but she becomes tense when pet along her body.
Reaction to being picked up:: Nila is tense during pick up, but remains calm when held.
