NICKY aka NIKITA – A1081535
Safe - 7-26-2016 Manhattan Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
**SAFE 07/26/16** NEW HOPE RESCUE ONLY!! Nicky aka Nikita was found in someone’s yard along with several other kittens. The finder fed them outside before trapping them and bringing them to the ACC. Nicky is only 12 weeks old, a little gray domestic kitty fending for himself. The ACC wondered why he hissed and swatted when they checked him over. If they haven’t noticed he is still a kitten and that’s his only defense . Even at his young age, he knows they are no good! Please apply to a New Hope Partner tonight to rescue this little gray fluff!

07/16/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/16/16 20:13 5 kittens: A1081531-5 were found in a backyard. They appear to be about 11 weeks old. Their finder was feeding them in her backyard for 1 week. She reports that they run away when she approaches them. She trapped the kittens and brought them to ACC. The kittens were stiff with wide eyes, retreated to the back of their carriers and huddled together. The first one allowed me to pick him/her up and transfer him/her to a new carrier. The second and subsequent kittens resisted as I picked them up and transferred them with towels. They didn’t vocalize.

07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nicky was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. His finder reports he would run away when approached. He was stiff and had wide eyes upon intake, retreating to the back of her carrier and huddled with his siblings. He allowed handling when wrapped around with a towel, but resisted handling during his initial medical exam and would hiss and swat. Reaction to assessor: Nicky was by the front, but becomes stiff and alert when approached. Reaction when softly spoken to: Nicky continues to focus on the assessor and starts to breathe rapidly. He blinks and hisses. Reaction to cage door opening: Nicky hisses and retreats from the front. Reaction to touch: Nicky hisses at the assessor’s hand and starts to growl. He spits and strikes at the assessor’s hand, but remains immobile when touched and his ears bend flat against his head. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Nicky is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
