Hello, my name is Nacho. My animal id is #14167. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 20-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as poor choice – too many animals already.
Nacho is at risk for medical reasons. Nacho has been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally Nacho has been assessed as being best suited for an experienced cat home.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Nacho was brought in with limited information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. He was reported to be a friendly cat that does well with strangers and children. He appears very docile.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – calm
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/21/17 Curled up behind litter box, wary, eyes dilated. Shifted back slightly when door opened. Tolerated pets, but lowered head and hid face behind litter box. 11/22/17 Curled up behind litter box. Became alert when door opened, flinched and shifted back. Tolerated pets, but lowered head and hid face behind litter box.

Reaction to assessor:: Nacho was curled up in his cubby with his tail wrapped tightly against his body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Nacho does not respond, but looks at the assessor with soft eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Nacho lowers his body and appears tense.
Reaction to touch:: Nacho accepts petting and closes his eyes when pet. His body flinches slightly when touched on his back, but he doesn’t seem to mind and continues to look at the assessor with soft eyes. He lip licks, but leans in slightly for cheek rubs.

Potential challenges comments:: Nacho has displayed fearful behavior during their stay.
