Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Musketeer was growling from inside the carrier and hissing. Musketeer did not allow being taken out and then Musketeer had airplane ears. Musketeer was not collared due to this behavior and a picture was taken from inside the carrier.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Musketeer was brought in with limited information on their behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/11/18 Observed Behavior – unable to examine out of net, trying to actively bite and scratch
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/12/18 Resting next to litter box, tense, eyes fully dilated. Shifted in place and started lip licking when door opened. Flinched, retreated, hissed loudly when attempted touch. Covered cage and left alone for now. 2/13/18 Avoids contact, runs into the other cage. Stiffens up in place, alert with eyes wandering and hisses to stop the interaction. 2/14/18 Avoids contact, pacing back and forth with pupils dilated. Does not allow the touch and hisses to stop the interaction.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Musketeer remains tense, crouch position on his cage bedding, during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Musketeer becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Musketeer avoids contact, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Musketeer does not allow the petting, hisses and growls at the assessor’s hand to stop the interaction.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Musketeer is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
