01/21/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/21/17 10:58 Basic Info: Mumbles A1100291 is a 7-8yr old male brown tabby DSH feline who is being surrendered along with his brothers Frisky A1100290 & Prince A1100292 due to their owner passing away a few months ago and family not being able to take them in. A neighbor has been caring for them until the trio could be surrendered to us. The boys were born in the home and their last vet visit is unknown. According to the family member the boys have dental disease. Socialization: Around strangers Mumbles is shy for several minutes. He hasn’t lived with dogs or children but was gentle, relaxed, playful & affectionate with the adult and the other 5 cats in the home. When a family member would visit with their two dogs (one medium size and one large size) the cats would run/hide. Mumbles hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Mumbles isn’t bothered by the following: being brushed, being in a car or being pet. He hasn’t been to comfortable with the neighbor who’s been feeding him enough to let them pick him up. Mumbles doesn’t like being in a carrier and will resist being placed in one same for being in a kennel (he’ll growl). It is unknown whether he’s been bathed, had his nails trimmed or been disturbed while sleeping/resting. For a New Family to Know: Mumbles is described as friendly, playful (at times), mellow & quiet with a medium activity level. When the owner is home he follows them around sometimes. It is unknown whether Mumbles plays with the ball and mouse toys he had. He’s an indoor only cat that sleeps around the home, eats wet & dry Friskies 1-3x a day and is uncovered litter box trained with clumping litter within. Mumbles hasn’t had a scratching post in a couple of years and it is unknown whether he scratched on it or if he’s been scratching on items in the home. Intake Behavior: Mumbles doesn’t seem to comfortable with being picked up/held as he tried to get away when taken out from his carrier. He was placed into a kennel where his picture was taken. Mumbles wasn’t scanned or collared due to appearing to be stressed.

01/24/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Indoor and/or Outdoor? Indoor Previously lived with: _1_ adult Behavior toward strangers: Shy Behavior toward cats: Gentle and playful Behavior toward dogs: Fearful Bite history: None Scratch history: None Litter box training: Uncovered with clumping litter Energy level/descriptors: Mellow, medium energy EVALUATION: Cage Condition: no change Reaction to assessor: Mumbles continues to hide in his hidey box Reaction when softly spoken to: Mumbles continues to hide in his hidey box Reaction to cage door opening: Mumbles continues to hide in his hidey box Reaction to touch: Mumbles growls, but tolerates the touch ENRICHMENT NOTES: The enrichment facilitator notes that Mumbles was very fearful, and would retreat when able MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: The medical staff notes that Mumbles would flee, swat, growl, swing head around to attempt to bite. A net had to be used during the initial ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only Mumbles tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his or her new home. He may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at his own pace. POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful Mumbles has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
