Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Mowgli was brought in without information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Nervous but allowed all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/03/18 Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body. Face is hidden behind litterbox. Tolerates petting along head and body while raising head to make eye contact and remaining very still. “Scared stiff.” Needs more time to adjust. 01/07/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed with a tense body, tail wrapped around him. Shows no interest in treats today. Tolerates petting along his head and body while shifting away from my hand and pulling his tail tighter around him. Face is tense. Needs more time to adjust. 01/08/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body and face tense. He makes eye contact when spoken to, then looks away. Shifts away from my hand as I reach towards him and tolerates petting along head and body while retreating to corner of kuranda bed and wrapping his tail around his body. Makes eye contact. Scared, uncomfortable. Not interested in treats at the moment. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Mowgli was alert and hiding underneath his kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Mowgli slow blinks when spoken to softly and the end of his tail starts to twitch.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Mowgli’s eyes dilate and he starts to shift away.
Reaction to touch:: Mowgli lowers his body, lip licks and tries to dodge/avoid the assessor’s hand when approached. His body feels tense and he only tolerates brief petting along his body before attempting to flee.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Mowgli has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mowgli tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
