09/06/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Mixy Brown is at-risk with an adult only determination. Her previous owner reports she keeps her distance around strangers. She doesn’t seem to mind being around people and will approach the front to investigate her surroundings. She was a bit hesitant of touch, but slowly warms up with a slow approach. When she becomes overwhelmed, she will hiss and display signs of discomfort.

09/02/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/02/17 13:36 Basic information: Mixy brown is a 10 year old DSH female. She has no known health issues or injuries, and last saw a vet about 2 years ago. Socialization: Mixy will keep her distance when first meeting people, and then sometimes approaches and other times keeps her distance. She will not hiss, she will just stay in her own space. She has spent time with the owner’s Grandchildren and she allowed for petting, but when she was done with attention she will give a small warning hiss and walk away. She previously lived with a younger cat but was not tolerant of the kittens antics and play attempts. She has not spent time with dogs. Behavior: Mixy has no bite history, and is vocal in the car. Her owner stated she struggled when she tried to give mixy a bath, but allows her to brush her for a short period of time. The vet has always clipped her nails. Mixy allows her owner to pick her up and place her in the carrier with a little struggle. For a New Family to know: Mixy likes to sit near her owner in the evening when she is watching tv, and will follow her around the house. She does not play with toys often but will run around the house in the evenings. She has been an indoor cat, and eats both wet and dry food. She is litter box trained with a hooded box and crystal litter. Mixy will scratch the walls when she wants her owner to wake up in the morning, but otherwise will use a post. Behavior during admission: Mixy allowed for all handling by counselor, but was anxious to get back in the carrier.

09/06/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults and children of all ages Behavior toward strangers: Keeps her distance Behavior toward children: Relaxed but gives a warning when she’s had enough Behavior toward cats: Lived with a younger cat but was not tolerant of the kitten’s antics and play attempts. Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Head butting at cage, allows petting, becomes tense with any attempts to handle, started swatting — brief exam completed in net. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/05/17 Makes eye contact and hisses, ears tilted. She sniffs my hand as I reach forward and raises her butt into the air when pet along her head and body. Allows further petting while rolling over onto her side, ears moving forward and body relaxing. Crouching down and hissing again after our interaction has ended. 09/05/17 Still in cat exam. She’s at the front of the kennel, head-butting the kennel door. Remains in the front as I open the kennel door and allows petting along her head and body, leaning in with tail raised and quivering. Remained calm and allowed all petting for duration of session. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Mixy Brown was sleeping underneath her kuranda bed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mixy Brown perks up and comes forward to investigate. Reaction to cage door opening: Mixy Brown steps back and watches the assessor. Reaction to touch: Mixy Brown sniffs the assessor’s hand then stretches out to head butt the assessor’s hand. She seems a little unsure and lip licks from time to time but slowly warms up with attention. She can get a little uncomfortable when pet for too long on her back and will whip around and hiss. Reaction to being picked up: Mixy Brown was a bit tense when picked up but remained calm and allowed all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Mixy Brown tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. She may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
