**SAFE 04/26/16** MITCHY is a gorgeous elderly male who has managed to live a long happy cat life, until now. His owner decided after 15 years that he didn’t want to care for this sweet guy anymore because of his health. MITCHY has diabetes and will need follow up vet care. He hasn’t been using the litter box, probably because of medical issues, but the owner never took poor MITCHY to the vet to find out why. He sadly just dropped him off, where he’s on death row. This sweet ginger guy deserves to be loved and taken care of and hopefully will have lots of good years left! MITCHY, like most orange cats, is friendly and loveable. He’s ready for an average home and just hoping that a kitty angel will come to his rescue. Please give sweet MITCHY a chance! Please foster or adopt this mini tiger! This sweet guy is badly in need of your help!

04/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/23/16 16:18 Mitchy is a 15 year old neutered Orange Tabby. He was given to owner as a gift from a friend and has been in their care since a kitten. He is being surrendered into our facility due to soiling the home. He is no longer using the litter box and he is emaciated. With strangers he is friendly and gentle when he plays with adults. He has no experience with children other cat nor dogs. There is no known history of him biting another animal or person. He often cries a lot and has litter box accidents. When riding in the car he cries and urinates. He has litter box accidents daily. He is both pooping and peeing outside of the box, this has been occuring for 1 to 6 months and a vet hasn’t been seen for the issue; this could be happening due to old age. He has never been given a bath and only has had his nails trimmed by a vet. He enjoys being picked up and held and struggles when being placed in a carrier. Mitchy is described as being friendly with a high activity level that will do best in a family home. He enjoys running around the house and chasing his toys. When home he will either be in the same room or follow family around. He was indoors only because he was scared of outside and slept anywhere comfortable. He ate when he called his owner dry Meow Mix; his favorite treats are Party Mix. He was litter box trained but now doesn’t use it, was provided a hooded ox with clumping litter. He was given a vertical scratching post made of cardboard. During intake all handling was allowed from counselor to scan (negative), collar and photograph.

04/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Mitchy is friendly around strangers, likes to play with adults and has never been around children. He has never been introduced to other cats and dogs. Mitchy has litter box issues and has been urinating and defecating outside the litter box for about 6 months. He is described as being friendly with a high activity level and likes running around the house and chasing toys. Reaction to assessor: Mitchy makes eye contact and is calm and relaxed at the front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mitchy stretches out and lays his head on the blanket. Reaction to cage door opening: Mitchy is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Mitchy slow blinks and allows petting all over. He leans his head in for rubs and appreciates attention. Reaction to being picked up: Mitchy has a soft body and is calm and relaxed when held. Mitchy’s previous owner reports that he was urinating and defecating outside the litter box, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. Please note as well that Mitchy has been diagnosed with and is being treated for diabetes in the care center, which may be influencing the urination behavior. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a home environment after treatment for the medical condition has been completed, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Average Mitchy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. He has been urinating and defecating outside the litter box and we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
