08/20/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Mirage was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: tense, tolerated exam when restrained ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/17/17 Immediately starts to hiss upon approach and shifts away in an attempt to hide. Attempts to escape as the cage door opens and dodges petting. Really fearful of interaction. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Mirage is laying in the back of her kennel with littermates. He makes eye contact with the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mirage continues to watch assessor closely and lay in the back of his kennel. Reaction to cage door opening: Mirage runs to the other side of her kennel with two of her litter mates. He keeps eye contact with the assessor and follows the assessors hand. Reaction to touch: Mirage’s eyes dialate and his ears go down and to the side. He appears nervous but allows petting all over with a tense body. Reaction to being picked up: Mirage allows to be picked up but immediately tries to leap back into his kennel. She goes back to hide behind her littermates and watches assessor carefully. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively, Athletic VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Kitten socialization: Mirage is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age.He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult only-Mirage tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do
