12/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
**UPDATE 12/12/16** Initially Mimi meows and solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to whine and swipe at the assessor multiple times. She is gentle when swiping, but did not retract her nails. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Mimi becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. We are seeing a behavior in the shelter that is not noted in her profile, so we are unsure if this behavior will transfer while in a calm home environment. She may need time to warm up to her new home at her own pace. However, due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children. Date: 12/09/16 Former owner stated around adults she is gentle and loves to be play. Also, described Mimi as friendly and playful cat with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Mimi looks neutral, sitting upright by the front when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Mimi remains by the front of the cage, relaxed body posture, meowing attention. Reaction to touch: Mimi stands with tail up then head-butts the assessor’s hand, purrs, and appreciates petting on the head and body. Reaction to Being Picked up: She accepts a brief pickup then calmly jumps back into the cage. Placement determination: Average Mimi interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
