07/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mile was surrendered to the care center by his previous owner. He is reported to be friendly with strangers, but has not been exposed to children or other animals. His previous owner describes him as friendly and playful, with a medium activity level. Mile was a bit tense at intake and during his initial medical examination, but he has been tolerant of handling. Mile appears to be overwhelmed in the shelter environment, and is having trouble acclimating to his new caretakers, though he is showing progress. He appears to be curious to interact, but hesitant to make physical contact. Reaction to assessor: Mile is resting at the back of his cage. He looks up, eyes wide, when the assessor approaches. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains at the back, tense. Reaction to touch: Mile allows gentle petting on the head and body. He starts to warm up after a few minutes, but does not relax or approach. When the assessor is later interacting with the cat next door, Mile comes to the front of the cage and remains close when the assessor turns to him, but retreats when she opens the cage door. Placement determination: Experience Mile tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
