Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Miko was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Hissing and growling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/04/17 Lying in litterbox with a relaxed body, ears forward. He makes eye contact when spoken to and sniffs the air. He tenses up as I reach towards him and backs out of his litterbox. Tolerates petting with the bear-claw along his head and body, flinching each time he’s touched. Raises paw. Uncomfortable with touch at this time – needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. 12/05/17 Lying In back of kennel with a relaxed body, ears forward. He remains calm when the cage door opens then tenses up as I reach towards him with the bear-claw. He shifts away to avoid touch and retreats back and forth in his kennel. Lip licks and raises his paw. Not interested in treats during this interaction. Unsure – needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Miko was relaxed and lying down in his litter box.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Miko tilts his head and makes eye contact with the assessor, but doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Miko rises up and lip licks.
Reaction to touch:: Miko continues lip licking and becomes very focused on the assessor’s hand when approached. He sniffs, then slowly leans in and accepts gentle petting on his head. He closes his eyes and gently nudges the assessor’s hand when rubbed on his cheeks. Although he appreciates attention and rubs on his head, he doesn’t seem comfortable with full body contact. He grumbles when touched along his back, tenses up, then quickly whips around and places his paw on the assessor’s hand as a warning.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: None
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Miko tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
