08/23/17 17:53 Midnight is a 5 year old altered male black cat. He was a gift to the owner and she has had him for close to 5 years. She is surrendering Midnight due to house soiling, allergies, and a new baby on the way. He has no injuries or health problems that she is aware of. Around strangers, Midnight is very fearful and will hide in a different room. He has lived with teenagers and was tolerant of them. He does not play with children or adults. Midnight has lived with another cat and was very relaxed and tolerant of her. Midnight has not lived with dogs so his behavior around them is unknown. He has not bitten a person or another animal. Midnight has been peeing outside of the litter box for a couple months and has not seen a vet for this. He is also fearful of people and will hide. He is quiet during car rides. The owner has not given Midnight a bath, trimmed his nails, or brushed his coat. He will struggle when placed in a carrier. Midnight is described as a shy and independent with a low activity level. Reaction to touch: Midnight leans in for attention, brushes up against the assessor and allows petting all over his body. He gives head butts and is constantly displaying affection. Occasionally he lip licks, whips around and focuses on the assessor’s hand when rubbed along his back for an extended period of time. He pauses briefly then goes back to soliciting attention. Reaction to being picked up: Midnight remains calm and allows all handling. He starts to grumble after a few seconds then wiggles out the assessor’s hand. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Easy going, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Inappropriate elimination – Midnight’s previous owners report that he was eliminating (urinating) outside the litter box for a couple months. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Midnight may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
