Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: an adult Behavior toward strangers: shy at first but will approach if comfortable Behavior toward children: spent time with an eleven year old and was very social Behavior toward cats: unknown Behavior toward dogs: unknown Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Energy level/descriptors: high Other notes: Mickey is said to be friendly and playful. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/17/17- Observed Behavior – QAR ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/16/17- By the back, stiff and alert. He huffs and puffs, lip licking and focused on me with dilated eyes. His ears tilt sideways when coaxed, but he would also lift his rear up slightly before lying flat down again. He appeared conflicted, wanting to interact but unsure. Sprayed feliway and spent some time in front of kennel. He approached the front after and looked at me, sniffing, and then meowing softly. He still huffs a bit, but he rubs his head against the cage door when coaxed. He accepts gentle petting, but would shift away again and stress meow. Needs time to acclimate. 4/17/17- Initially at the back, stiff, eyes dilated. Started huffing and yowling on approach. Possible reaction to room noise? Calmed significantly when room quieted, and started rubbing against the bars. Posture noticeable softer, much less vocalizing. Leaned and arched enthusiastically into pets, tried to walk out of cage. Became fixated on staff member making noise at other end of room. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Mickey looks tense, standing upright hissing by the front of the cage during approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mickey continues to hiss, growl, huffs and puffs when spoken softly to. Reaction to cage door opening: Mickey becomes alert with eyes wide open, ears back. Reaction to touch: Mickey seems conflicted, he slowly leans into the assessor’s hand, but remains vigilant while he growls and randomly hisses. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Curious, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only Mickey tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents.
