Hello, my name is Mia. My animal id is #12573. I am a desexed female white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 14-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Mia is at risk for medical concerns. Mia is FIV+ which is contagious to other cats. Mia has been assessed behaviorally as requiring placement in a cat experienced home.

Mia was very stiff bodied she allowed me to collar her but she did not want to get out of the carrier and kept backing away. She did not let me pick her up or adjust her position.

Basic Information:: Mia is female a white and gray domestic short hair cat that is estimated to be year old. She was a gift from a family member and was with her previous owner until they moved into a building that did not allow animals.
Previously lived with:: 2 Adults, 2 Adult Cats
How is this cat around strangers?: Mia is friendly with strangers after a few minutes of them being in the room she will approach and greet them.
How is this cat around children?: Mia was not around Children in her previous home.
How is this cat around other cats?: Mia lived with 2 other cats in her previous home she was very affectionate with one of the cats and would always be by her side they would share food and sleep together.
How is this cat around dogs?: Mia was not around Dogs in her previous home.
Behavior Notes: Mia will cry and meow if left alone in a room she prefers to always be with someone if not she becomes very skittish and tends to hide. She is not bothered by being bathed and picked up. She is used to having her nails trimmed and will stay still. She enjoys having her coat brushed.
Bite history:: Mia has no history of having bitten another person or animal

For a New Family to Know: Mia is a very sociable cat enjoys company she is most comfortable when there are other cats in the house. She enjoys lying in the window sill and will follow you around the room. She enjoys playing with balls and string. Mia is used to being indoors and eating wet and dry food. She is very litter box trained and uses uncovered litter boxes. She does not have a tendency of scratching on things even if she is given a scratching posts so she needs regular nail trimming.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -quiet, allow exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/15/17 Curled up asleep behind litter box, woke when door opened. Lay in place, eyes dilated, wary. Hissed when litter box moved to make room. Leaned into head pets, lowered head, closed eyes. Hissed when pet along body. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Mia remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cage cubby.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Mia becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Mia stiffens up and increases distance, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Mia briefly accepts the touch then began to hiss and growl at the assessor’s hand to stop the interaction.

VOCAL:: Quiet

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mia may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
