***SAFE 08/30/17*** PERFECTLY HEALTHY 1 YEAR OLD MEW NEEDS A RESCUE ANGEL NOW! MEW is one of a group of cats from a home with “too many”. Her pal Wandy is also listed tonight. Mew probably never got the attention she deserved and is understandably frightened in the shelter. Only a year old and very cute but timid – and needs your help now! MUST RESERVE MEW THROUGH A NEW HOPE RESCUE BY NOON!

08/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: tries to flee, frantic–netted ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/23/17 Lying in litter box with a low body, ears flat. Bogus paper has been all torn up. Tolerates petting along head and body while backing away, arms and body stiff. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Mew was crouched on top her kuranda bed with her ears bent flat. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mew keeps her tail tucked at her side and tenses up when the assessor tried coaxing her forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Mew is tense and wary. Reaction to touch: Mew lip licks, her eyes become fully dilated and she leans away when the assessor extends his hand out. She flinches when touched, lip licks and starts breathing more rapidly when pet on his head. She tolerates petting but stays immobile throughout the interaction and grumbles when she’s had enough attention. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Mew has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Mew tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
