KNOWN HISTORY: Merlot was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. During intake, she allowed herself to be picked up and placed inside a carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Friendly on exam, very good appetite ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/27/17 – Asleep in bottom cubby, woke when touched. Kept body low, a bit wide-eyed, seemed wary. Tolerated body pets, but ducked away from head pets. Ate offered treats. Came out to main compartment for more treats after door closed. 8/28/17 – Resting in cubby, seems sleepy. Lay in place when door opened. Allowed and slightly leaned into pets, drooled. Sniffed treats, but didn’t eat. Tolerated pickup, but hissed once and retreated to back of cubby when returned to cage. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Merlot lays in place, soft posture, and looks at the assessor with neutral eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Merlot continues to look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Merlot remains calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Merlot leans into pets and starts to drool. Reaction to being picked up: Merlot sits calmly and looks around. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Easy going, Sweet BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Merlot interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
