Hello, my name is Melon. My animal id is #13101. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 19-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as poor choice – too many animals already.

Melon is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Based on his behavior assessment we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

Reaction to assessor:: Melon was tense, curled up near the front of the kennel and hissed when approached by the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Melon starts breathing rapidly and watches the assessor with wide eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Melon hisses then shifts away to the other side of the double kennel.
Reaction to touch:: Melon tenses up and lowers his head when approached. He keeps his tail wrapped at his side and follows the assessor’s hand when pet along his body. After a few soft pets he gently nudges the assessor’s hand and leans in for cheek rubs.

Potential challenges comments:: Melon has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling.
