08/31/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/31/16 10:42 BASIC INFO Melo is a 3 year old neutered DSH cat. His family got him 2 years ago from ACC and relinquished him when they moved to a new home that doesn’t allow pets. SOCIALIZATION Melo is shy with new people for a few minutes. He was relaxed, affectionate, and tolerant with children of all ages who visited. He plays gently with people. He lived in a home with an adult woman and interacted with a neighbor’s female cat regularly. He cuddled and played gently with the neighbor’s cat. Melo hasn’t bit/scratched anyone. BEHAVIOR Melo is nervous in the car. He enjoys being bathed, picked up, and held. He doesn’t mind when someone puts him in a carrier or wakes him up. He’s nervous but tolerant when his owner trims his nails and brushes him. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Melo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, and low-medium energy. He follows his owner and sits in her lap. He plays with balls and a ball in a track that plays music. He lived inside. He slept in his owner’s bedroom or on the couch. He ate dry Friskies food. He is littertrained, used an uncovered litterbox with clumping litter, and doesn’t have accidents. He scratched couches. He had a vertical carpeted post but didn’t scratch it. INTAKE Melo was tense and crouched with wide eyes while I pet him, scanned him (+), collared him, photographed him, and put him in a carrier. He tried to walk back into his carrier on the counter. He didn’t resist or vocalize.

09/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Melo’s previous owner reports he is shy with new people for a few minutes, but was relaxed, affectionate, and tolerant with children of all ages who visited the home. He interacted with a neighbor cat regularly and would cuddle and play gently with this cat. He enjoys being picked up and held, and doesn’t mind when someone places him inside a carrier or wakes him up. He was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and mellow with a low-medium activity level. He tends to follow the owner around and sit on her lap. Reaction to assessor: Melo comes to the front and appeared curious, looking around at his surroundings. Reaction when softly spoken to: Melo head-butts the cage door lightly and leans against the cage wall. Reaction to cage door opening: Melo retreats to the back of his cage. Reaction to touch: Melo head-butts gently and leans in for petting. He seems to appreciate petting, but becomes alert and retreats with any sudden movement or noises. Reaction to being picked up: Melo is a bit tense, but relaxes when held. Behavior Determination: Experience Melo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
