Meeka lived with her people since she was a kitten and of course, they rewarded her for her friendship by dumping her at the kill happy shelter. She is described as friendly, outgoing and gentle. But is naturally stressed at the ACC. So this long time house pet has been slapped with a NH rating which means you will have to contact a rescue if you are willing to help save her life. Please be Meeka’s hero. She will surely return to her normally sweet self once out of the shelter. 10/10/16 09:07 Basic information: Meeka is a 6 year old spayed female. She was given to her previous owner as a gift when she was a kitten. She was surrendered because her previous owner is moving to an apartment that doesn’t allow pets. The last time she was seen by a vet was 2 years ago. She has no know injuries or health problems. Socialization: Around strangers Meeka is friendly and outgoing and gentle when she plays with adults. She lived with children ages newborn to 6 years and was relaxed and affectionate. When she played with children she was gentle. Behavior; Meeka has never attempted to bite a person or animal. She sleeps during car rides. She isn’t bothered if her nails are trimmed. She enjoys having her coat brushed and being picked up. She isn’t bothered when placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Meeka is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and quiet with a medium activity level. The two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she’s friendly and greedy. When her previous owners were home she would tend to follow them around. She liked to play with balls and stuffed toys. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept in her cat bed. She ate dry food. She’s never had a litter box. She was taught to use the bathroom in the bathtub. She had a vertical scratching post made or rough rope but didn’t use it. She used leather furniture to scratch on. Behavior during intake: Meeka allowed me to pick her up, pet her and collar her. She head butted and had a relaxed body while outside of her carrier. Once inside the carrier she began to circle and scratch and bite at the door with the hair on her back raised. She was taken out of the carrier and calmed down but once put put back she struggled to get in and immediately began the same behavior.

Former owner stated around strangers Meeka is friendly and outgoing and gentle when she plays with adults. She lived with children ages newborn to 6 years and was relaxed and affectionate. When she played with children she was gentle. Also, described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and quiet with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Meeka looks tense, hiding in the cat den when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Meeka remains in place, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Meeka does not allow the stroke. She began to hiss, strike, and growl at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Meeka is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. She is extremely stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
