Meet Maxwell: This little guy need a loving family to come home to. He appreciates attention and being petted. However, he needs to be given time to warm up to new people. He is a little shy, but with patience he can be a great companion. Let’s help find this guy a home!

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 06/09/2017 from NY 10457, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Maxwell A1114770 is at risk due to URI and behavior. He appears aloof when approached by his caretakers, but allows gentle petting on his head and body. After a moment of petting, he will slowly get up and retreat back into his cat den when he’s had enough of interaction. We are unsure if his wound may be affecting his behavior.

06/09/17 14:02 Finder did not handle him much but he did allow finder to pick him up and place into a carrier. During his intake Maxwell was very calm and moved around casually and calmly. He allowed all handling for intake including collaring, scanning and photograph. He gave a low growl once when being picked up but still allowed all hnalding.

KNOWN HISTORY: Maxwell was brought in as a stray, so there is limited information on his behavior in his previous home. His finder reports he allowed them to pick him up and place him into a carrier. He was very calm and moved around casually during intake, allowing all handling, but he emitted a low growl when picked up. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – growling hissing, exam performed in freeman net EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Maxwell was calm and relaxed, lying down by the front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Maxwell looks at the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Maxwell remains motionless, but calm. Reaction to touch: Maxwell’s ears tilt sideways and he appears alert. He allows gentle strokes on his head and body, though his body twitches when touched. After a moment, he gets up and slowly walks into his cat den to avoid further interaction. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Maxwell tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
