***SAFE 03/10/18*** MASK is a 2 yr old kitty who is very stressed and upset about being put in the shelter. He needs a new home asap where he can decompress. Mask came to ACC after being left behind in and abandoned apartment four months ago. He has had a rough time with the transition to shelter life would benefit from a home with caretakers that will allow him the time to warm up at his own pace.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/26/18 Curled up on kuranda bed, head down, eyes dilated and darting. Lay in place when door opened, put ears sideways. Tolerated pets, but started to lip lick. Covered cage, left alone for now. 2/27/18 Curled up on kuranda bed, ears sideways, eyes fully dilated. Lay in place when door opened, hissed. Started lip licking and deep growling when offered treats. Tolerated pets, lowered head, held strong eye contact. Clearly uncomfortable. 2/28/18 Curled up on kuranda bed, ears sideways, eyes fully dilated, head down. Started hissing and lip licking when door opened. Sniffed assess-a-hand, allowed and slightly leaned into pets, held strong eye contact. 03/01/18 Crouched over on top of kuranda bed, looking out with dilated eyes. Flinches when door opens (door is loud), and hisses at me with ears bent flat against his head. Although nervous and lip licking, he sniffs my hand when extended. He shifts his body and leans against the back wall, uncomfortable, but allows gentle strokes on his head and body. His body remains tense, but he relaxes some when given treats. Still very wary and unsure of surroundings, but has potential to warm up with more positive reinforcement.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Mask looks tense, resting on his cage bedding turned sideways during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Mask looks up with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Mask’s body stiffens up, eyes wander towards sudden noises in the room, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Mask accepts the touch, but ears turn sideways while lip licking with no interest towards the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mask may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
