Cat was transferred directly from trap to den. Cat was scanned for a microchip during intake and there were not displays of aggression. Cat just seemed very alert and nervous. Finder stated that he feeds a whole bunch of strays but it has come to the point where there are too many and they are not altered. He stated he is disabled and is unable to get the cats altered himself.

05/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Masala came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Masala was alert and nervous. Reaction to assessor: Masala is lying in the back of her cage, paws tucked under. Reaction when softly spoken to: Masala looks at the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Masala presses against the back of the cage. Reaction to touch: With a slow approach, Masala tolerates petting, but is very tense and nervous. Placement Determination: Experience Masala does not approach the assessor and appears to be fearful, but allows petting and handling. Masala is exhibiting behavior suited to experienced cat parents who can allow her a quiet place and adequate adjustment time to a new home environment. 6/7 update: Masala is not thriving in the kennel environment. She consistently hisses and growls, tolerates minimal handling, and avoids interaction by hiding in her cat den. We feel it is in her best interest to move into a stable home environment quickly.
