Marie is front declawed but still liked to use the rough rope scratching post that the owner had in the home. Behavior during intake: Marie was nervous and at the back of the carrier during intake. As per previous owner, Marieis shy around strangers and will hide from them for a few days. Whenever the owner had guests over the home, she would stay hidden the whole time. The owner had 2 children ages 9 & 11 in the home & stated that Marie was very respectful and tolerant of the children but would prefer to stay to herself. She lived with another cat and was relaxed and affectionate with him. Her owner describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, shy and quiet with a low activity level. She did not play with any toys and preferred to lounge around instead. Reaction to assessor: Marie was hiding underneath her blanket near the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Marie moves around underneath but doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Marie remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Marie has wide eyes, keeps her tail lowered and looks around wary of her surroundings. She seems uncomfortable but allows petting on her head and will slowly raise her body up when rubbed. Her body is a bit tense, she starts to stress meow then retreats back under her blanket. Reaction to being picked up: Marie is tense when picked up then gets antsy and leaps away. Behavior Determination: Experience Marie may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
