***SAFE 12/17/17*** MAORI WAS FOUND IN A BUILDING AND BROUGHT TO THE SHELTER WHERE HE CAUGHT A COLD AND MUST EXIT NOW!! MAORI is a shy, timid boy who has been neutered. He caught the shelter cold and now they have given him his exit papers!! MAORI is on the shy side and may need some time to come out of his shell. I came into the shelter as a stray on 01-Dec-2017.
Maori is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. We believe that Maori would be best suited to an experienced cat home.

Recheck post-op neuter and vomiting reported this AM: S/O: QAR mildly dehydrated, BCS 4/9 – nervous tense behavior – allowed PE slowly – no nasal discharge appreciated, no sneezing – H/L nsf, slight cough – amb x 4, snp abdomen – neuter site healing well, no discharge A: mild dehydration, hx of one episode of vomiting – tense/nervous demeanor P: LRS 100 ml SQ once – Cerenia 0.35 ml SQ once – monitor in medical overnight/recheck
Hx: neutered on 12/8, had episode of vomiting yesterday and was treated with SQF, cerenia; recheck S/O -QAR, shy/skittish but allows gentle handling -no appetite, no vomiting noted; normal, formed stool in box -mm pk, tacky; moderate hypersalivation -serous nasal discharge, nasal congestion; intermittent open mouth breathing, likely related to congestion -eupnic, quiet lung sounds diffusely; no murmurs/arrhythmias -soft abdomen A URI Episode of vomiting-r/o secondary to URI vs anesthesia vs stress vs other P move to isolation doxycycline 0.8 ml PO SID x 10 days cerenia 0.4 ml SQ SID x 2 days LRS 150 ml SQ SID x 2 days nebulize SID x 4 days

During intake Maori was skiddish and nervous. Maori was cautious coming out the carrier, but allowed to be pet slowly and gently. Maori did jump over small movements and was on alert while being collared.

How is this cat around strangers?: The founder said that Maori was nervous and low body during approach and while placing into the carrier. The founder were able to pet Maori briefly but did not have any other interactions.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: scared and cautious, but able to do complete exam going slowly

Reaction to assessor:: Maori remains tense, crouched position at the back hiding in the cage cubby.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Maori becomes alert with a blank stare.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Maori stiffens up, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Maori flinches during touch, began to lip lick in place and shows no interest with the interaction.
