MAMI – A1061942
Safe - 1-15-2016 Manhattan
**SAFE 01/15/16** BEGINNER-rate senior sweetie who lived with a small dog and likes kids! “A volunteer writes: This big girl is full of love. Mami (short for Mamacita) is a sweet, easy-going feline who enjoys petting, brushing, and games of fetch. According to her former owner, she tolerates dogs and children well. She meows to go outside, but will come when her name is called. Though she loves scratching her post, she never harms furniture. Mami is incredibly empathetic, and will keep you company when you are sad, or generally feeling down. Wouldn’t you love to come home to this lovely girl? Another volunteer writes: Sometimes cats are like a good wine, they get even better with age. And if Mami were a bottle of wine, none of us could afford her! She is twelve years young, just above middle age for a domestic cat (they can live to 18 or 20). Her coat is a beautiful blue cream brindled color and she is as friendly as can be. She’s a super nose kisser (my personal test for cats is whether they will make face-to-face contact, and she was off the charts). She was easy to pick up and relaxed in my arms, although she’s a bit heavier than she should be. Nothing that a good diet and some extra play time can’t correct. If you have a big heart that goes out to the older ones amongst us, do come meet sweet Mami.” MAMI just needed a little more time to acclimate to a recent move, but her former owner was not willing to allow her that. Please find a FOSTER or ADOPTER to save the life of MAMI, tonight!

01/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – BEGINNER
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mami’s previous owner states she has lived in a home with adults only. She has interacted with children ages 10 years old and older, and was tolerant of them. She lived with a Dachshund and was tolerant of him also. He would attempt to play with her and she would hiss at him to leave her alone or chase after him. She was described as sweet, particular, therapeutic, and laidback. She allows petting and will meow when she has had enough. Mami was allowed to go outside and howls when she wants to go out and will return when she is called. She doesn’t scratch furniture. Mami would play fetch and chase lasers. She likes to play with yarn as well. When her owner is upset or sad, she would approach and lie next to her owner. Reaction to assessor: Mami was calm, relaxed, and friendly upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mami comes to the front and rubs her head on the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Mami remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Mami head-butts right away and begins to purr. She leans into petting and is very affectionate throughout the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Mami remains calm and allows handling. Mami’s previous owners report that she has been urinating outside the litter box recently, but they suspect it was due to the recent move to a smaller home. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Beginner Mami interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
