07/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lolick was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/23/17 Lying in back of kennel, body neutral and ears forward. Moves forward to sniff my hand. He seems relaxed but immediately tenses when I reach towards him to touch his head. His body stiffens and he leans away from my hand, whiskers pulling back and eyes wide open, ears flat. Tolerates touch briefly with one paw raised before he places his paw on my hand and pushes it away. Not interested in treats today. Very uncomfortable with touch at this time. Needs more time to adjust. 07/25/17 Lying in litter box with a tense body. He turns his head and begins sniffing when I open the kennel door, ears shifting forward. Tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to smell the bear-claw, eyes alert and ears remaining forward. Sniffs treats I place by him but he doesn’t eat them as I’m watching. Seems more tolerant of interaction today – more curious. Still needs some time to adjust. 07/26/17 Low body posture, curled up in the back of the cage. He becomes alert and focused when the door opens. Seems a little curious, leans forward and sniffs hand. He lip licks then turns away and closes his eyes when attempting to touch him. Very tense body, his eyes widen and he becomes fixated on my movements. Tolerates attention on his head, not comfortable with full body petting. Sprayed felway and left some treats by the front. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Lolick tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
