***SAFE 01/28/18 *** Confused two year old, LILYAH dumped for move to un-petfriendly home. She lived with a 5 and 7 year old and another cat that she ignored. She’s got a lot of energy and loves wand toys so all she needs is some directed play! Please give LILYAH a chance tonight!!

Hello, my name is Lilyah. My animal id is #19032. I am a desexed female tortoiseshell cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 24-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Lilyah is at risk due to behavior, New Hope Only determination. Lilyah is stressed in care center and will not allow any handling at this time. There are no medical concerns for her at this time.

Reported to be spayed Subjective:eating dry food in carrier Observed Behavior -growling when attempted to touch, a little nervous Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P = unable to obtain HR R = unable to obtain RR BCS 6/9 VERY LIMITED EXAM- p nervous and stressed, as just arrived at ACC EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: unable to perform PLN: unable to perform H/L: unable to ascult cardiac sounds, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic, growling ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: FS, grossly normal MSI: skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment slightly overweight FS Prognosis: good Plan: rec recheck DVM exam in 48hrs, may be more calm and adjusted at that time and can perform a more thorough exam long term rec weight loss of approximately 3 lbs- to be lost over 8-10 months through monitoring food intake and promoting exercise SURGERY: N/A

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake Lilyah allowed all handling. She was receptive to being picked up and placed on the counter. She allowed the counselor to pet her and she stood semi still for a picture. She allowed the counselor to collar her and was receptive to some office treats. When counselor opened the carrier she willingly walked in. Once inside the carrier Lilyah began to growl and hiss. No further handling was performed.

Basic Information:: Lilyah is a roughly 2 year old cat whom was gotten from a friend and kept in the same home for 2 years. Unfortunately due to moving to a no pets allowed apartment she could not be kept.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Lilyah has no known litter box issues.

How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers she is described as shy for a few minutes and plays exuberantly and somewhat rough
How is this cat around children?: She has been socialized with children ages 5 and 7 and is described as respectful and plays exuberantly and somewhat rough
How is this cat around other cats?: She has been socialized with one other cat and is described as tolerant and didn’t play
How is this cat around dogs?: Lilyah has not been socialized with dogs so this behavior is unknown
Behavior Notes: Lilyah is known to meow when she’s hungry, occasionally scratches her owners bed and will meow during car rides. She will struggle during bath time, will hiss and bite at the brush when attempting to brush her and isn’t bothered with having her nails trimmed, being picked up and held or being placed in a carrier.

For a New Family to Know: Lilyah is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, assertive, shy and talkative. She enjoys playing with balls, strings, wand toys and laser pointers. She slept on her own cat bed, ate Purina dry and wet food 3 times a day, had an uncovered litter box with clumping litter and a scratching post made of rough rope.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/24/18 Observed Behavior -growling when attempted to touch, a little nervous
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/25/18 Resting on bedding in middle of cage, stiff, eyes dilated. Became alert on approach, came forward, started growling. Backed up when door opened, started hissing, growling, snorting. Eventually calmed down after door closed, lots of talking quietly, and slow blinking. Ate a few offered treats, remained tense. Covered cage.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Lilyah remains tense, sitting upright by the front of the cage during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Lilyah stress meows and hisses when spoken to.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Lilyah growls and hisses while increasing distance with ears turned sideways.
Reaction to touch:: Unable to perform attempts to swat from the cage door.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Lilyah is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
