Brooklyn Center
Hello, my name is Lexi. My animal id is #7771. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 9 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a data import – incoming on 01-Oct-2017.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Behavior Determination: Adult Only
Lexi is at-risk with an adult only determination. She was initially very fearful during her stay and flinched with any sudden movement or noise. She has shown improvement throughout her stay and now head-butts for attention, but she still may show some reservations when initially approached for interaction.
Details on my behavior are…
KNOWN HISTORY: Lexi lived in a home with only adults, but was reported to be friendly and outgoing with strangers. The owner reports she behaves well, but she doesn’t like to be brushed and will bite. Her owner described her as as friendly, affectionate, and mellow with a medium activity level. When at home she will follow her owner around. Lexi likes to play with balls. She has been kept indoors and is litter box trained. She uses an uncovered litter box with crystal litter. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows exam, growled and screamed during blood draw. Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Lexi backs away slightluy and blinks softly, keeping a low gaze. Reaction when softly spoken to: Lexi doesn’t make eye contact with the assessor and continues to blink. Reaction to cage door opening: Lexi flinches as the door opens, startled, and hisses after. Reaction to touch: Lexi was hesitant of touch and slowly shifts away to avoid contact. She allows gentle petting with a slow approach, but she continues to shift away and starts to grumble. Reaction to being picked up: Did not attempt. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful Potential challenges comments: Lexi has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may be uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only
