Observed Behavior -docile, very affectionate! allows all handling
Evidence of Cruelty seen -none
Evidence of Trauma seen -RF lameness/swelling
Objective
BCS=4.5/9
EENT:OD-mild hyphema ventrally; PLR present; no nasal discharge; AU-mild waxy debris
Oral Exam:mm pk, slightly tacky; CRT <2 sec; adult dentitia present with no significant tartar/staining
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
U/G:female, no spay scar palpated
MSI: RF-non weight bearing lameness; severe soft tissue swelling over mid humerus and limb hangs abnormally; no external wounds noted; scant flea debris
CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal:grossly normal
sedated with 0.1 ml torb/0.1 ml dexdomitor for radiographs
Radiographs RF-complete mid-diaphyseal fracture of humerus; partially open physis due to juvenile status
Assessment
R humeral fx
Mild hyphema OD
Suspect trauma/possible HBC
Prognosis:good with treatment
Plan:
simbadol 0.3 ml SQ SID until placement
onsior 0.24 ml SQ SID x 3 days
gave 50 ml NaCl
noted to have good appetite once sedation wore off
did not place splint due to fx location
rec’d orthopedic consult ASAP to discuss surgical stabilization vs amputation
SURGERY: temp waiver due to humeral fx
