Hello, my name is Lee. My animal id is #17496. I am a female gray tabby kitten at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 02-Jan-2018.
Lee is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Lee will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. We recommend Lee go to an experienced cat owner as Lee is more independent.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 3 months History : Surrender Subjective: BARH, attempts to flee. Hissed once during restraint Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – none Objective P =220 R =30 BCS 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, moderate tear staining at medial canthus OU. Brown debris AU with no erythema. Nasal airflow intact bilaterally but mild increased nasal respiratory sounds appreciated Oral Exam: Healthy deciduous dentition PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic. Slight referred upper airway sounds ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female intact. MSI: Ambulatory x 4. Skin free of parasites, no masses noted. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: NE Assessment Mild URI Prognosis: Good Plan: Continue with current treatment plan: Doxycycline 0.3mL PO q24h x 10 days Erythromycin OU BID x 10 days Tresaderm AU BID x 7 days Recheck on day 7, 10 Surgery Temporary waiver due to URI

Upon intake, Lee would treat in the box when approached. Lee allowed me to collar but began to hiss and tried to flee when more handling occurred. Once picked up, Lee began to wiggle and tried to escape my hold. Once in the kennel, Lee hissed when approached and would flinch when touched.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Lee was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/03/18 Hisses when door opens and focuses on hand when extended. Although alert, he allows gentle petting and starts to relax, closing his eyes and leaning in for rubs. Needs time to adjust, but has potential to warm up more. 1/4/18 Curled up on bedding, eyes dilated, tense. Hissed quietly when door opened and when first touched, then allowed all pets. Flattened ears when picked up, but posture quickly softened, leaned slightly into pets, extended neck for throat scratches. Remained overall calmer when returned to cage.

Reaction to assessor:: Lee remains neutral, tightly curled up in place on her cage bedding.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Lee becomes alert with eyes wide open.
