***SAFE 10/24/16*** PERFECTLY HEALTHY LATVIA IS ONLY A YEAR OLD BUT NERVOUS IN THE SHELTER AND FOR THAT – THE ACC WILL KILL HIM AT NOON! LATVIA came in as a stray, and is confused and afraid in his new “caged” environment. Can you blame him. This cute 1 year old tuxie boy needs a hero to give him a place to decompress and learn that not all humans are out to get him. LATVIA did allow petting on his assessment and was given an EXPNOCHILD rating. However, you can reserve him online as he is on the public adoption site or you can contact a rescue to assist. LATVIA only needs some patience and TLC and will turn into a wonderful companion! PLEASE SAVE THIS HANDSOME TUXIE BOY TONIGHT! CONTACT A RESCUE NOW TO PULL HIM TO SAFETY.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Latvia was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was hissing and swatting upon intake, cowering by the back of his carrier. He displayed distance-increasing behaviors during his initial medical exam and attempts to flee to avoid handling. Reaction to assessor: Latvia was pressed by the back wall and was lying down with his legs and tail tucked underneath his body. Reaction when softly spoken to: Latvia becomes stiff and alert. He avoids eye contact and focuses on his surroundings, eyes darting around. Reaction to cage door opening: Latvia remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Latvia remains tense, but allows the assessor to pet him on his head and body. He continues to look around his surroundings and seems to want to flee. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Latvia tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
