SAFE 6/30/18 Meet Lara! This 10 month old kitty is a little scared is hoping someone will take her home @MACC. Poor LARA was dumped at the shelter by her owner. She was extremely upset, and not allowing handling. She needs a home asap where she can decompress and relax. Please help this panther kitty today.

Subjective / Observed Behavior – did not allow handling. Hissing, lunging, swatting and biting when attempting to remove from kennel.

Resting at front, head down, tense, eyes fully dilated. Started grumbling on approach. Lifted head and screamed when touched. Left alone for now.

Crouched at front, tense, eyes fully dilated. Started growling on approach. Hissed and struck immediately when shown assess-a-hand, then retreated and hunched down in litter box.
6/20/18
Crouched position at first then sits upright, hisses and attempts to charge the front, but remains at the back with pupils dilated.
6/21/18
Curled up asleep on bedding next to den. Opened eyes when spoken to. Lifted head and became alert when door opened, started stress meowing. Lightly swatted assess-a-hand when touched, did not aggress further, continued laying in place. Sat up and ate offered treats after door closed.

Lara remains crouched position turned sideways at the back of the cage.

Lara sits upright, hisses with eyes wide and pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Lara stiffens up, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:
Lara slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand, seems curious, but cowards in place and tucks in head. During the attempt to pet, she began to growl but accepts a brief touch on the head while ears turn sideways and body leans on to her side. Quickly after, Lara swats off the hand when petted along the body then runs into the cat den to hide.
