He was a little shy when I first met him, but he was very sweet once I started interacting with him. As you see in the video, he enjoys to be petted on his cheeks and was purring. I couldn’t help noticing that he was looking for me when I was working with other cats! Of course, I went back to pet him again. Sweet Kovu is at Manhattan ACC, looking for his forever home!
**KOVU lost his home when owner was evicted. He came down with the curable kitty cold and MUST BE RESERVED BY NOON TOMORROW!!!

Hello, my name is Kovu. My animal id is #15602. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 07-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won’t allow.
Original Location: 10035
Kovu is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. We suggest that Kovu would be best suited to a cat experienced home.

Needed to restrain in net. Limited PE Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – n Evidence of Trauma seen – n Objective T = P = wnl R = eup BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: no obvious lesions, unable to fully examine PLN: submandibular LNs nsf H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic. Difficult to auscult due to growling/hissing ABD: unable to assess U/G: MN per Hx MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no obvious ectoparasites seen, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment approx 3yo MN DSH apparently healthy Prognosis: good Plan: ctm at MACC until transfer/adoption

Kovu had a relaxed body posture. His eyes were semi dilated. He was receptive to handling and allowed to be transfer between carriers. He sat nicely for a picture. He went back inside the carrier willingly. He was headbutting the admissions counselor.

Basic Information:: Kovu is a 3 years old neutered male brown tabby and white domestic short hair cat. The previous owner got him from a family friend when Kovu was just a kitten. He was surrendered because of personal problem. He has no known health injuries or health problems.
Previously lived with:: 2 Adult 1 Child
How is this cat around strangers?: The previous owner stated that Kovu was initially shy around strangers. Kovu was friendly after a few minutes.
How is this cat around children?: He lived with a 1 years old Child and was usually tolerant around him. He played exuberantly with adults and children.
How is this cat around other cats?: He was not around other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: He was not around other dogs.
Behavior Notes: The previous owner stated that he did not have any behavioral concerns when it came to Kovu. He was not bothered by baths or disturbed while sleeping. He enjoyed having his coat brushed. He also enjoyed being picked up and held.
Bite history:: He does not have a bite history.
Energy level/descriptors:: High.
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
For a New Family to Know: The previous owner stated that he was friendly but shy cat. He was very playful and his favorite toys were chasing and wand toys specially feathers. He was kept mostly indoors. He slept in his own bed or the client. He ate wet and dry food but preferred wet. He was very well trained to use the litter box. He has an uncovered litter box filled with fresh step litter. He once had a rough rope scratching post but he destroyed it.

Reaction to assessor:: Kovu is in his den on approach, peeking out at the assessor with dilated eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Kovu continues to look at the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Kovu pokes his head out of the den and grumbles quietly.
Reaction to touch:: Kovu leans into the stroke and stops grumbling, but won’t come entirely out of the den.

Potential challenges comments:: Kovu has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
