*** GONE 09/22/16 *** ANOTHER CHANCE TONIGHT FOR KELLAN AND NOW HER PAL KAYLA IS LISTED TOO!!! EAR TIPPED CATS FOUND IN A BUILDING….KAYLA and KELLAN are New Hope rated and we have to wonder if they both just wandered into a building or they lived there? KAYLA and KELLAN are quite fearful and may be feral (though not all ear tipped cats are feral). They need someone to be willing to work with a NEW HOPE rescue and FOSTER them if their lives are to be SAVED….If you would like to contact a NEW HOPE rescue but don’t know how, email us at [email protected] and we can guide you to rescue information….Remember – New Hope ratings measure the fear the cats have IN the shelter, and not their behavior once in a safe home.

09/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kellan came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. During intake Kellan was tense, tried to flee, and did not allow handling. She also did not allow handling during her medical initial examination, hissing and growling when touched and attempting to flee. When visited by the behavior assessor, Kellan was tense and she growled when the assessor got close, so the evaluation was ended at that point out of concern for her stress level. Reaction to assessor: Kellan is at the back of her cage, body low. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in place, tense. Reaction to touch: Kellan initially allows a very gentle touch on her body, but as the assessor leans in closer Kellan growls. Placement determination: New Hope Only Kellan is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has shown clearn discomfort with human interaction during every attempt, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
