Katniss 18462 – 7 week old male black kitten:

DVM Intake Exam
Estimated age: 7 weeks
Microchip noted on Intake? negative
History : stray brought to BP on 1/15/17 with a severe rectal prolapse and dehydration. Was sedated and purse string easily placed. Given SQ LRS, capstar, lactulose, strongid, and panacur. FIV + at BP.
Subjective: BARH. Eating well. Rectum slightly prolapsed and soft stool coming out of rectum.
Observed Behavior – very sweet. Easily handleable. Did well for all medical handling and procedures
Evidence of Cruelty seen – no
Evidence of Trauma seen – no
Objective
P = wnl
R = eupneic
BCS 4/9
EENT: Eyes have mild mucoid d/c ou, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted
Oral Exam: kitten dentition, no oral lesions noted
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic, purring
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated, distended
U/G: FI, no MGTs, no vulvar d/c
MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat with diarrhea dried to tail, rectum is mildly prolapsed with purse string in place, soft stool leaking from rectum
CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities, positive anal tone
Assessment:
Rectal prolapse
FIV +
Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC
Recheck daily +/- remove purse string 1/20
Parvocite-negative
Dewormed with ponazuril and panacur
Start metronidazole 15mg/kg PO BID x5d until 1/22
Start miralax 1/8 tsp PO BID x5d until 1/22
Rec retesting for FIV at 6 months of age
Combo test-FIV +, FeLV –
Start terramycin OU BID x5d until 1/22 (gave first dose)
Applied dextrose topically to rectum
Prognosis: Good to fair
SURGERY: temporary waiver due to rectal prolapse
