I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 11/11/2016 from NY 11229, owner surrender reason stated was LLORDPRIVA.

11/11/16 14:38 Katar is a thirteen year old male domestic shorthair. He was surrendered by her owner due to owner moving into a facility that does not accept pets. He was with his owner for a few years and was previously owned by a family member. Katar has lived with two adults in his previous home. He is described as fearful around strangers and will stay hidden when strangers approach the home. He has spent time with children ages 13 and was described as respectful but will keep his distance. Katar has not been around cats or dogs. Katar often escapes from the home and will escape through the windows. Katar will urintae outside the litterbox when he is upset. He will stuggle when given a bath, held or when his nails are trimmed. He prefers not to be picked up. Katar is described as a mellow cat. He has a low activity level and likes to stay in his favorite spot and rarely be seen in the home. He was allowed indoors and outdoors. He eats dry food and is fed three times a day. He uses an uncovered litterbox and clay litter. Katar does not scratch in the home. Upon intake Katar was relaxed and cousnelor was able to place hands inside the carrier and lift him. Cousnelor was able to collar, scan and photograph.

Katar’s previous owner reports he is fearful around strangers and will stay hidden when they visit the home. He has lived with two adults and spent time with children. He was respectful around children, but will keep his distance. The owner reports he will often escape from the home through windows. He prefers not to be picked up, but was described as a mellow cat with a low activity level. He tends to stay in his favorite spot at home. Reaction to assessor: Katar was lying down upon approach, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Katar gets up and his tail begins to quiver. He meows softly and approaches the front. Reaction to cage door opening: Katar remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Katar leans in for petting, begins to purr, and starts to knead. He nudges the assessor with his head, soliciting attention. Reaction to pick up: Katar was tense during pick up, but wiggles to get back down. He may be uncomfortable being held because of his girth. Katar’s previous owner reports he will urinate outside of his litter box when he is upset. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Average Katar interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
