07/18/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Kale came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. During intake, Kale seemed nervous and was attempting to flee the carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: During initial medical exam, Kale appeared nervous, hissing/growling and attempting to flee. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Kale was resting in the back of a cubby with her littermates. Reaction when softly spoken to: Kale appeared alert, body tense. Reaction to cage door opening: Kale hissed at the assessor, ears flattening slightly. Reaction to touch: Kale relaxed slightly upon petting but remained tense. Reaction to being picked up: Upon being picked up, Kale attempted to flee. Afterward, she retreated to another area of the cage. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Kitten socialization – Kale is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, Adult Only – Kale tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
