ENRICHMENT NOTES:
06/03/18
Lying in back of kennel, body flat and tense. Avoids eye contact when spoken to. Tolerates petting along head and body while shifting weight and flattening ears. Uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust.

06/04/18
Lying in back of kennel, hidden beneath kuranda bed. Vocalizes softly when spoken to. To comes forward with a low body to eat the treats I left in the front of the kennel. Allows petting while eating treats – food motivated. Retreats back to kuranda bed after treats have been eaten. Tolerates petting while raising rear slightly as my hand passes along her back. Unsure, needs some time to adjust.

06/05/18
Lying in back of kennel, concealed beneath kuranda bed. She vocalizes softly and steps forward for treats. Eats treats offered, then retreats back under bed as I open the kennel door. Tolerates petting with the scratcher briefly before hissing and swatting it out of her way. Uncomfortable today, needs more time to adjust. I left her some treats and left her alone.

06/06/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body low and head resting on floor. Raises head and vocalizes softly when spoke to. She tenses as the kennel door opens and tilts ears. Hisses and growls, ears flattening further as I reach towards her. Not interested in petting at this time. Some conflicted behavior. Needs time to adjust.

06/07/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body relaxed and ears forward. Vocalizes softly when spoken to and rolls over onto her side. Jumps off of kuranda bed and approaches the front of the kennel for treats so I click and reward each time she allows a pet along her head and body. Doing much better today, leans in for each pet. Head-butting kennel door after interaction has ended.

06/08/18
Perched on top her kuranda bed. Turns head to make eye contact, meows softly. Leans in when rubbed on cheeks, perks up when pet and hops down from bed. Appreciates attention. Did well today!

06/10/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body relaxed and ears forward. Vocalizes softly and allows petting along head and body while leaning and kneading. Turns head to head-butt my hand and vocalizes again. Sweet girl – allows all petting from on top of her kuranda bed where she feels more comfortable. Loves treats. Showing steady improvement!

06/12/18
Lying under kuranda bed, meowing when spoken to and starts to purr loudly. Greets by the front when door opens and allows petting all over. Loves treats, gobbles them up when offered and leans in for more rubs, soliciting attention. Very sweet girl! Doing well.

06/13/18
At the front of the cage, meowing and rubbing her body against the door. She purrs and reaches out with her paws for attention. Stands on her hind legs and gives head butts. Clicker training for high fives-rewarded with tuna. Took some time to get the hang of it. Constantly reaching out for treats. Doing great!

ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Mellow
VOCAL:
Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE:
Sweet

Affectionate

Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Justice has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
No young children
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Justice tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center and in her previous home, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
