A1123085 Jon Snow – John is at risk for a NHO determination. His previous owner reports new people would need to work very slowly with him because he is very shy. He displays fearful behavior when approached for interaction, attempting to hide, and will display distance-increasing behaviors when petting is attempted.

08/23/17 18:55 Basic information Jon snow came in as stray that was in the finders home over night. There are no injuries or health concerns finder saw. Socialization Around strangers, Jon Snow is shy for a few minutes and the finder stated they would need to work slow with them. He was not around children so behavior is unknown. He played exuberant with the finder. He was around another cat briefly and was respectful and played gentle. There is no information on his behavior with dogs. There is no bite or scratch history with a person or animal. behavior Finder stated that he cries and meows alot and hides in fear. He was relaxed in the car ride. There are no litterbox problems. He did not get a bath so behavior is unknown. He enjoyed brushing of coat. He isnt bothered with picking up and holding and being placed in the carrier. For the new family to know Finder described him as playful, mellow, shy, sometimes fearful and talkative with a medium activity level. He plays with string and wand toys. He slept in a crate and ate dry food nine lives. He used a uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. He used a scratching post made out of cardboard behavior upon intake Jon Snow allowed some handling like collaring and petting. When taking out for intake picture he became tense wide eye and ears flattened. counselor did not handle after that due to possible stress

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish KNOWN HISTORY: Jon was brought into the care center as a stray and with unknown history. Behavior toward strangers: shy for a few minutes and the finder stated they would need to work slowly with them Behavior toward cats: He was around another cat briefly and was respectful and played gentle Bite or Scratch history: none Other notes: described him as playful, mellow, shy, sometimes fearful and talkative with a medium activity level. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/24/17 Asleep in den, woke when door opened. Lay in place, eyes dilated. Started hissing, lip licking, and deep growling when offered treats. Left alone for now. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Jon remains tense, hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Jon remains immobile in place, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Jon hisses and growls while attempting to touch on the head. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Jon Snow is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
