Hello, my name is John. My animal id is #10754. I am a desexed male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 25-Oct-2017.
John is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats.

Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P = 120 R =wnl BCS: 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: mild gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: male castrated MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: mild gingivitis in apparent good health Prognosis: good Plan: consider periodontal therapy continue to monitor at ACC SURGERY: already altered
New URI noted on rounds Subjective: QAR. Sneeze marks noted in cage but no active c/s/v/d. Audibly congested. Very nervous. Objective EENT: no nasal or ocular d/c H/L: No c/s but is audibly congested Assessment: URI Mild gingivitis Plan: Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x10d Recheck at day 7, 10 Move to iso Prognosis: Good

KNOWN HISTORY:: Although this cat was brought in as an owner surrender, he came in through field rescue – therefore we have no previous history notes available.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Friendly, allows exam and treatments with minimal restraint.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/17 Lying In litterbox with a low, tense body. Tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to watch my hand, ears tilted as he licks his lips. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: John is lying in the back of his kennel with a low, tense body as the assessor approaches. Ears are slightly tilted.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: John makes eye contact when softly spoken to.
Reaction to cage door opening:: John flattens his ears further as the cage door closes.
Reaction to touch:: John tolerates petting along his head and body while flinching and squinting hi sees closed. He then leans away with from the assessor’s hand with further petting, eyes remain closed shut.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: John has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time
