03/20/17
Low body inside of litter box, tense and alert. Focuses on me when spoken to, but would lower gaze and blink after. Appeared fearful and unsure. Sprayed feliway and left alone for now.
03/21/17
Skittish, hissed when door opened. Backed away, seemed unsure. Alert, eyes focused. Leans forward to sniff & accepts petting on head. Body perks up, allows petting all over his body. Chirps and head butts for attention. Loves tuna. Gave him some catnip toys, rolled around playfully.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor: Joey was lying down and relaxed by the front of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Joey purrs softly and rubs his cheeks against the kennel door.
Reaction to cage door opening: Joey flinched and became alert.
Reaction to touch: Joey looks around the kennel and seems a little hesitant when the assessor approaches him. Once he sniffed the assessor’s hand he started to warm up and started soliciting attention. He leans in for cheek rubs, purrs softly when touched along his body and rolls around playfully.
Reaction to being picked up: Joey was a bit tense when picked up due to his size but he remained calm and allowed all handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Affectionate, Sweet
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Uncomfortable with pick up – Joey’s previous owner stated that he isn’t too comfortable being picked up and will run away and hide. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend any future home with children be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking him up, especially while he is still adjusting to his new home.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Joey may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

Lying down by the front, calm and relaxed. Meows softly when spoken to and gets up. Rubs head on door and greets by the opening. Head-butts and nudges hand and body with his head. Tail sways sideways but he seems to like attention. Tries to explore outside of kennel, but allows me to pick him up and place him back inside.
03/23/17
Moved into room6, wasn’t too happy being transported. Behavior reflects owner profile when trying to pick him up. Update: checked on him later, much more relaxed. Still hesitant when the door opens but quickly relaxes when you start petting him. Sniffs hand, gives soft head butts. Curious, looks around outside kennel. Comfortable being pet all over, tail erect.
03/24/17
Skittish, hisses when the door opens/closes. Low body posture. Unsure when I extended my hand forward. Sniffs then gently leans in allowing petting & attention. Gives soft head butts, comes forward and brushes up against my hand. Much more relaxed today. Food motivated. Didn’t mind being picked up.
03/25/17
Looks over at me with relaxed eyes then meows softly. Comes forward when coaxed, rubs against kennel door. Backed away when door opened but didn’t hiss. Leans in for attention, calm & relaxed. Sweet, chunky guy. Would probably be best to do an adoption interaction in his kennel.
